Bicycle Travel Case - Biknd or Pika

I tried so hard. I wanted a Biknd Helium since last year when I first laid eyes on it.

I contacted every bike shop in my area, (in two states) and not one had done more than hear about the case. Some said they saw it, (2 of them said they saw it on my site) some heard of it but none knew where or when you could get them. I said I was told January, then February by the manufacturer. Yet no one could confirm of get their hands on it. Biknd has no retailers listed on their site, I was out of luck, and time.

I said I have travel events coming up, a lot of them. I need a new case. I have to pull the trigger rathet than wait until the last second.

After much research I settled on the Pika Pack. Not only was it half the price it doesn’t look like there is a bike inside. The last point really helps when checking it at the airline counter. Now let’s see how it holds up to travel. I bet it will be fine, as I know mutliple national PROs who use it by choice, not by freebie.

Feast your eyes on the Pika Pack

I’ve never heard a howl like it before

It woke me up at 11:30 (when the rain finally stopped) and kept me awake until it was time to leave for work. I leave when it’s still dark out, so I didn’t see the carnage everywhere. Highway was covered in ice and debri all the way to the city. Still I had no clue what was going on.

A third of the state had no power for days and trees had fallen everywhere but (luckily) at my house. The roads are eerie, covered in brush, like a tree trimmers truck overturned and dumped it’s load everywhere.

I witnessed a good amount of the damage from the saddle of my cross bike Sunday. Riding in 40 F weather with 20 mph winds. The sound of purring generators echoed through every street and roadway I rode. Reminds me of last year. Riding the day after the icestorm in a crystalyne type enviroment. The woods looked like Superman’s fortress of solitude.

Most of the power has been restores thanks to the lineman working days and nights. I passed a crew of them at point during my ride. About 6 of them gathered around one truck, looking over a map and the almost never-ending amount of work ahead of them. Thanks guys!

The rivers are swollen but receding., and most things are back to normal. Hell… dance class was on tonight.

I have trips planned everywhere from the Midatlantic to CA. I’m going to NJ first. I will speak, (that’s usually what i do when I travel) see friends and plan projects. Looking forward to co-lecturing with Drew, apparently he is looking forward to it also. he did afterall send the following text.

I heard the way Italy convinced DC to host the Giro was bring these chicks along. Also promising their return during the race. I’ll go. if they’re there.
Go Giro

Spring is knocking on my door

But everytime I go to answer it Old Man Winter throws a big olde cock block.

Everything from rain to snow to wind. Just plain raw crummy weather. I’m still out there. Bundled up like a baby on my first ride home from the hospital.

Although a bit tired this week. Maybe I’m over doing it at the gym. Just trying to get my swell on like every other tough guy there. Staring at my arms in the mirror (evern though I’m working my legs). Walking around with my arms held away from my sides; as if my lats were too big to drop them down beside me. So BIG!

Inside. 40 minutes a day is all I can muster.

MrBill… This is not enough snow to ski on. What kind of crazy crap is going on in TX?

Good news from the family front. My Mom who has admitted to using EPO (procrit) has been feeling better. Her hemoglobin has gone from 8.5 to 11.5 in a few short weeks. Even though EPO is not a cure and only a bandaide it’s nice to know she is feeling well. Well enough she said to do her own spring yardwork. As long as she wears a bullet proof vest she should be fine out there.

The following email from Tony strung a cord deep in my soul. For so many reasons, so close to me. I plan to share exactly why, I am currently working on it. Trying to assemble it in such a way it is not babble. For now:

Let me tell you guys about something I saw on my AM bike ride this morning,

I was really touched by this guy I saw on the bike path in Manhattan Beach. He was laying down on a recumbent bicycle and as I was passing him I noticed that his left leg was amputated below the knee and his right leg appeared to be fairly useless but he didn’t let it get the best of him.

He was cranking away on his pedals with his hands and he was absolutely INCREDIBLE!. It brings tears to my eyes right now telling you guys about it. I told him “Way to go Dude!”…. I saw him smile.

Sometimes we don’t know how fortunate we are.

Thanks for listening,

Tony
