A solution to the world’s urban transportation problems
could lie in two wheels not four, according to executives for General Motors Corp. and Segway Inc.
A line from this article.
The headline that made my jaw drop. How obnoxious! Have they somehow over-looked the bicycle as our solution to transportation problems?
Everyone should agree the solution to the world’s urban transportation problem is public transportation and bicycles. Bicycles the original two wheeled solution. I’m going to go stand outside of the Segway dealer In Concord with a picket sign, (I finally have a reason to protest).
Merckx:
“ I am certain that the bicycle will once more fill a social role and again become a means of transport and not just an object of leisure. Once cars had chased it out of towns and, for several years, the concern of our leaders was to make it easier to drive cars by enlarging roads and leaving space for nobody else. Now they’re in the process of undoing all that and, even if the change varies from country to country, I can see that there is a whole new way of political thinking. In Germany, Belgium and the countries of the north, the changes are already visible. In the Latin countries it’s an idea that’s making progress.[62]

So many cyclists post beautiful photos of their rides while I post crummy mobile phone pix. This is hard for me to deal with since part of my day job requires me to take photgraphs and I take great pride in them. I was tired of taking pictures with my phone and all my cameras are too big to carry on rides.
I had to find a small durable camera.
I did. Shockproof, freezeproof, waterproof, and small… Nice.
Very easy to use, fits right into my pocket. Some sample photos from Tuesday nights freezing windy ride.
Halfway up Fisk hill
Cresting the top.. feeling good.

New folks to ride with?…..
Derailed Relocates
ATLANTA, Georgia (derailedonline.com) - After seven years of being a southerner, Derailed well be moving north to New England. Although, many have thought I was already a New Englander when in fact I was actually from Georgia. Now I will be closer to the action and able to attend more of the east coast events and if my cards play out even more National and World Cup events.
Come March 30, Derailed’s and Hcor’s headquarters will be departing for it’s new location in Nashua, New Hampshire. Look forward to the wealth of riding there is in the North East and picking up an extra hobby in the winter - snow sports.

Hello Nick,
Glad to see your finally able to get outside and get in some miles. I went to a Mtn Bike race in Arkansas over the weekend, you would have loved it.
On the Segway, at first I thought, pretty neat, then I thought what the hell good is it, if I tried to ride it to town and back some redneck in a truck would surly have a ball running me off the road, I’m with you, what the hell’s wrong with a bike?, Oh yeah, excercise, I forget, most folks can’t stand it.

…to clarify “this” i mean the two-seater segway.
as for the camera, i’ve got one of those myself. previous cameras got dropped in an underground lake found in an abandoned mine, and fallen on while snowboarding. rip, sensitive electronic devices.

I wish to defer. The bicycle may be suitable as an alternative to “country-side” or “rural movement”
where rest and recreation are sought for, devoid of industries and fast movements. It is as out-dated as the use of the wheel-barrows in the handling of goods, when movements are by containers !
In China, prior to its emergence as an economic power in yesteryears, the bicycle had been the common means of transport. Not anymore now. People need to move fast, where time is precious. As the saying goes, ” Time and Tide Wait For No Man.” I agree there should be an alternative to road and I think the solution may be in Rail Transport. We should look at rail movements, the monorail as in Melbourne and Amsterdam and improve as well as improvise rail network, as a long-term option to solve the multitude of transportation problems.
